Will you send a letter to the Premier?
Origin Energy has applied to frack an area the size of the ACT in the Channel Country for shale oil. If allowed to go ahead, this would be the first case of shale oil fracking in Australia, which would result in disastrous impacts to our desert rivers and fertile floodplains.
Thousands of Queenslanders like you have sent petitions, held community events, met with MPs and rallied outside the state Labor conference. Now, we need Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk to take action, and protect the Channel Country rivers and floodplains from damaging development.
It’s clear that while the Queensland Government stalls on their commitment to protect the Channel Country rivers and floodplains, oil and gas giants are on the march. But the Channel Country rivers and floodplains are too precious to frack.
Will you send a handwritten letter to the Premier, demanding they step up and protect the Channel Country rivers and floodplains once and for all?
Send your letter to…
Or email: [email protected]
Key messages to include in your letter:
- Thousands of Queenslanders are counting on the Queensland Government to follow through on their multiple elections commitments to protect the Channel Country rivers and floodplains - this means protecting the rivers and floodplains from fracking and the infrastructure that comes with it (roads, pipelines, dams, gas wells and pads)
- The Channel Country rivers are amongst the last healthy desert rivers in the world, we need to keep them that way for the thousands of native plants and animals that rely on them
- The Channel Country is home to Australia’s biggest organic beef operations, fracking and the infrastructure that comes with it could risk the livelihoods that rely on the free flowing rivers and fertile floodplains
One more thing… make sure to take a photo!
